CRUX

Find the point everything hinges on.

Getting to the crux of the problem. Bringing calmness to complexity.

01 — The Idea

Every hard situation has a crux — the one point everything else depends on. Most of the noise around a difficult problem isn't the problem itself. Crux exists to find that point, and solve it, with a level head and a clear plan, whatever the situation actually is.

Strategic. Operational. Financial. Reputational. The kind of problem that ends up on your desk rarely stays in one lane — and neither do we.

02 — About

A calm, independent read when it matters most.

20+ years across investment banking, corporate finance and chief executive roles.

Clients have ranged from private equity and high-net-worth investors to start-ups, listed entities, and partnerships with large tech and ASX-listed organisations. The instinct traces back to valuation work in corporate finance and liquidity risk at an investment bank: find the actual problem before spending real money solving the wrong one.

Today that's available across a handful of clients at a time — brought in for the specific problem that needs solving, not the whole business.

03 — Where I Help

Not a fixed service list — a way of working.

If a situation is complex, high-stakes, or nobody else wants to own it, that's usually where this is most useful — strategic, operational, financial or reputational. A few recurring shapes:

01

The Hard Decision

A call the board or leadership team can't quite make alone — capital, direction, or people.

02

The Deal

Buying, selling, or restructuring — negotiation, structuring and judgement through the process.

03

The Turnaround

Something has stalled or gone wrong, and it needs a steady, experienced hand to reset it.

04

The Operational Problem

Process, supply chain or execution isn't working the way it's supposed to, and it's costing you.

05

The Growth & Marketing Problem

Demand has stalled, positioning is unclear, or growth isn't translating into results.

06

The Investment Call

Independent judgement on capital allocation and investment decisions, personal or corporate.

04 — Solved

Not hypotheticals. Things that were actually broken.

The pattern matters more than the sector. A few, kept deliberately vague to protect the people involved:

A business burning cash, given twelve months to fix it before the runway ran out. Fixed in six.

A core product had a couple of years left before the market moved past it — the Blockbuster problem, not the Netflix one. Got ahead of it, launched the replacement early, and it grew faster than the original ever had.

A founder who knew the business had outgrown its own foundations. Rebuilt the structure, governance, growth plan and leadership underneath it.

Raised capital for early-stage businesses when the usual doors were closed.

A property and lease structure quietly costing the business real money, for years. Renegotiated it and banked the difference.

Built partnerships the business needed. Ended ones it had outgrown. Both take judgement.

Got owners' businesses genuinely ready for sale — not just tidy on paper, actually ready.

Got someone into a sold-out Taylor Swift show after being told it couldn't be done. Not every problem is a business problem — the approach is the same one regardless.

"It can't be done" isn't a stop sign. It's a red flag to a bull. Being the last call after everyone else has tried and failed suits me fine — it just makes solving it that much sweeter.

05 — The Network

One point of contact. A network behind it.

No single person is the answer to every kind of problem, and pretending otherwise is how bad advice happens. Behind Crux is a trusted network of operators and specialists across law, finance, marketing, operations and technology — brought in only when a situation genuinely calls for it. You deal with one person. The right expertise shows up when it matters.

06 — The Straight Answer

If it's not a fit, you'll still leave knowing who is.

If a problem sits outside what Crux or the network can genuinely help with, you'll get a straight answer and a pointer toward someone who can — not a maybe, and not a sales pitch for something that isn't right for you.
